Energy efficiency alliance

The newly formed Australian Alliance to Save Energy (A2SE) opened for business in November with a mandate to ‘make energy efficiency central to Australia’s public policy debate and to inspire real, measurable action among businesses and consumers’.

A2SE is an independent, not-for-profit coalition of business, public sector, environmental and consumer leaders who seek to inform, influence and advance the efficient use of energy in Australia. The organisation is modelled on the US-based Alliance to Save Energy which has been involved in American energy efficiency policy-making and community change processes for over 30 years.

According to its website, www.a2se.org.au, A2SE will conduct research into energy use, energy networks and energy culture.

The US Alliance to Save Energy and A2SE will collaborate on ventures such as joint sponsorship of events and energy efficiency-focused trade missions between the two countries.

A2SE was endorsed by both major Australian political parties in July.
